Lower cost of ownership and hassle-free maintenance with no DEF
2012 Ram Heavy Duty models come equipped with our innovative, class-exclusive NOx Absorber Catalyst (NAC) system+, which automatically regulates diesel emissions according to EPA standards. So while other drivers will be required to monitor and maintain their Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) system, you can save your time and money.
Transmission choices
Ram Heavy Duty trucks offer a variety of engine and transmission combinations so you can configure a powertrain that meets your needs. The automatic transmissions feature Electronic Range Select and Tow / Haul mode.
Electronic Range Select allows the driver to manually limit the highest available transmission gear, thereby enabling manual upshifts and downshifts based on road speed and engine speed.
Tow / Haul mode improves vehicle performance during trailer towing or heavy-load hauling. When Tow / Haul mode is selected, a revised shift schedule is used to provide more power and reduce transmission shift changes and "gear hunting." The Tow / Haul switch is located in the center stack of the instrument panel.
Suspension
Ram Heavy Duty trucks are built to be durable from the ground up. Two-wheel drive models feature a short- and long-arm independent front suspension system with large stabilizer bars, plus steering arms positioned to minimize bump steer. Four-wheel drive models feature a five-link, coil-spring front suspension with a link-type sway bar and a beam axle for an outstanding combination of ride, handling and off-road operating characteristics. Both two- and four-wheel-drive rear suspension systems use high-strength longitudinal leaf springs and a solid rear axle. All 3500 models include separate auxiliary spring leafs to support the full-rated load dual rear wheel and contribute to higher payload ratings.
Durability
Ram trucks are designed to maximize vehicle uptime for more hours on the job. In fact, they're subjected to the most punishing environments and terrain on the planet before they get to your driveway.
We put Ram Heavy Duty trucks through grueling trials that range from 120°F deserts to -20°F arctic climates. You can name the challenge from towing in the mountains, to running for a week without stopping.
Cummins® Turbo Diesel engine-equipped Ram Heavy Duty trucks have long oil change intervals of up to 7,500 miles (depending on driving habits and conditions) and all Heavy Duty models feature durable, corrosion-resistant hydroformed frames. So rest assured - Ram is ready to work for you for years to come.
Warranty
All 2012 Ram Heavy Duty engines and transmissions are protected by a 5-Year / 100,00-Mile Powertrain Limited Warranty+.
Brake Life
Ram Heavy Duty trucks with the 6.7L Cummins® Turbo Diesel engine are equipped with a standard integrated diesel exhaust brake. It prolongs brake life, reduces brake fade and provides stopping safety and confidence, when hauling heavy loads on downhill grades.
The diesel exhaust brake slows your truck down without using your wheel brakes. Instead, exhaust gasses that would normally flow through the turbocharger are kept in the engine after the turbo's exhaust inlet closes. This builds exhaust backpressure, which slows the engine and therefore the drivetrain.
A wide brake pad surface area, and large brake pistons and calipers, mean longer intervals between brake jobs and less time and money spent in the shop.
Storage
Ram Heavy Duty trucks are available in three cab configurations including a Crew Cab configuration. Their roomy seating and versatile storage features rival the utility of their cavernous cargo boxes.
Conveniences
Say hello to a truckload of driver conveniences, both practical and comfortable, designed to make life on the job a little easier. Take the Electronic Vehicle Information Center, for example. It displays your truck's vital stats ? like average fuel economy, trailer brake control information (if equipped), dual-zone temperature, outside temperature and more.
NO NEED TO HOLD YOUR APPLAUSE
Every detail of a Ram truck is tough & tested, and the sound system is no exception. Partnering with Alpine® Electronics, we tailored a 7.1 Surround Sound System for Ram durability and acoustics. Our diligence rewards you with amazing audio clarity. So when you're on the road, the 506-watt amplifier and 10 speakers (including subwoofer) turn the cabin into a realistic sound stage. The results are so impressive, you might want to charge admission.
Accident Avoidance Features
A truck as big and powerful as Ram Heavy Duty needs large brakes. That's why we go big on our brake pistons and calipers, and why our brake pads cover a wide surface area. This allows you to stop with confidence and ensures longer intervals between brake jobs
Protection
Being protected on the way to work is just as important as jobsite safety. In fact, the New 2012 Ram HD has 25 Safety and Security features. Front and side airbags+ offer impact protection, while crumple zones and side-impact door beams provide structural safety.
Parking assistance
The available ParkView® Rear Back Up Camera+ allows you to see an image of what's behind your truck on the Uconnect® System+ whenever the transmission is put into reverse. The camera is located near the tailgate handle on the rear of the vehicle, giving you an extra-wide view, whether you're backing into a spot or hitching up a trailer.
Interior Comforts
Ram Heavy Duty trucks offer many available comforts and conveniences so you can relax during a long day on the road. Detailed craftsmanship can be seen all around in features like the upgraded interior with a soft-touch instrument panel and door trim, available two-tone upholstery plus detailed stitching on the seats and throughout the cabin.
